Port of Spain, Trinidad- UBC Freshman Maria Bernard ran to a 6th place finish on Saturday at the NACAC Cross Country Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad. She was the top Canadian runner in the Junior Women’s race, which included several NCAA Division 1 runners.

Bernard covered the four-kilometre course in 14:29.41 on a relatively hot day in Port of Spain. The Canadian women rallied up a total of 39 points to finish 2nd to a talented American squad led by University of Michigan Freshman, Shannon Osika. Mexico was close behind as they finished in 3rd spot with a total of 48 points. Bernard will now shift her attention to the track as she gets set to open up the Outdoor Season on March 31st at the Ralph Vernacchia Invitational in Bellingham, Washington.

In the Senior Men’s race, Samuel Pawluk of Point Grey TFC, tackled the eight-kilometre course in a time of 25:35.68 to place just outside the Top 10 in 12th place.
